The great mud migration: Masai Mara hit by floods

Several days of torrential rains have broken the long drought on the plains of the Masai Mara Reserve, turning the dry savannah plains into a veritable sea.

A series of images taken after the deluge have come to light, some showing a bewildered lion ‘island hopping’ between small patches of land poking above the waterline. Professional photographer and lodge owner Paul Goldstein told the Daily Mail that “storms and rainfall like this can change the whole complexion of this marvellously fertile area.” He went on to note that huge herds of wildebeest started crossing back into the Masai Mara the very next day.
