Europe, Weird, Odd & Just Plain Fun
‘To each his own’ is a common enough saying, but one hotel in Switzerland has taken the saying and done something more with it. The Kameha Grand Zurich has 12 suites, each decorated and designed to suit whoever a guest might fancy being for the night – an astronaut, a Hollywood actress, or a sports aficionado.
The luxury hotel has designed the suites to suit different themes, some of them with names such as the Poker Face Suite, the Diva Suite, and the Burlesque Suite. The level of detail is pretty extreme. The Space Suite for instance has a ‘floating bed’, galaxy painted walls, and contains a variety of space-themed books and objects. The Burlesque Suite comes with an enormous king size bed and all forms of toys for amorous couples, whilst the Fair Play Suite has a punching bag and a foosball table.
Created with the business traveller in mind by hotelier Carsten K. Rath, the hotel is near the airport and in the middle of Zurich’s growing Glattpark business district. However, the hotel is far from sterile and is welcoming to all types of travellers. It has its own quirks that run through the design of the whole hotel and base themselves on stereotypically Swiss objects, such as chocolates, clocks, and safes. The walls and some of the doors are lined in brown leather to look like like chocolate, whilst many of the handles look like the handles to a safe.
With the motto “Life is Grand”, a stay at the Kameha is sure to be something of a thrill.
