The 25th birthday of Singapore Zoo’s lone polar bear Inuka has kicked off with a photo exhibition highlighting the threat climate change poses to Arctic ecosystems.
At the Wednesday launch of the exhibition, Inuka, the first polar bear born in the tropics, was presented with a birthday ‘cake’ made of ice blocks, whipped cream and fruits. Inuka, who officially turns 25 on 26 December, is considered to be a senior bear – polar bears bred in captivity have a typical lifespan of 25 years, but can live longer. Inuka’s mother Sheba, for example, died in 2013 at the age of 35. Read more: straitstimes.com
