Karaoke has become so popular in Russia over the last decade that in 2016 the first Russian-Asian karaoke competition, the Asian Championship, will be held in Moscow. Karaoke clubs started opening in Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union, but professional karaoke championships only started to develop in 2006, when there were 100 contestants in Moscow. In 2016 the project will include charity contests. Karaoke clubs in Russia are usually large halls, with several tables, rather than small booths. Contests are usually held at a cafe with a stage, and prizes are often substantial. Read more: m.rbth.co.uk
