Ryanair has become the first airline to carry more than 100 million international customers in one year, the company has announced.

The Irish budget airline broke the record after seeing a large increase of passengers in December, increasing by 1.5 million over the previous year, reaching a total of 7.5 million passengers in the month.

The company’s chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said in a statement that with lower fares in December, following the November terrorist attack in Paris and the following terror threat in Brussels, Ryanair’s December traffic increased by 25%.

“We are pleased that over 101 million international customers chose to fly with Ryanair in 2015, as we became the first airline to reach this international traffic landmark”, he said.

While Ryanair saw high numbers of international travellers between European nations, Delta Air Lines in the US carried the most passengers, with 179.4 customers in 2015, reports the Independent. Of that number, 83.3 million were international passengers, while the rest were domestic flights within the US, covering a large geographic area.
