A Los Angeles road that has buckled and twisted over the last few days has left geologists baffled. Vasquez Canyon Road, in Santa Clarita, north of downtown LA, has risen 15ft since drivers first noticed its unusual behaviour at the weekend and alerted authorities.

Geology students from UCLA who came to see the phenomenon were unable to shed any light on the causes, noting that there’s been no heavy rain or earthquake in the area. A 200ft stretch of the road remains closed indefinitely. Read more: cbsnews.com
