Maned wolves may not be the cutest animals as adults but, after two puppies were orphaned at a Swedish zoo, the species has been winning hearts in the country.
Puppies Rata and Arken are being hand reared at Nordens Ark near Göteborg (Gothenburg) since their mother sadly died from tumours a few days after they were born.
While they haven’t had the best start in life, the wolves – which are native to South America – are thriving and, after a successful introduction recently, zookeepers hope that their father will teach them essential “wolf skills” such as hunting.
