New York hotels join city challenge to go green

As part of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s NYC Carbon Challenge Program, 16 local hotels have announced their intention to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent or more in the next ten years.

This initiative is expected to reduce emissions by 32,000 metric tons and save nearly $25 million in energy costs. Participating hotels include the Waldorf-Astoria New York, the Pierre and the Crowne Plaza Times Square, the Lotte New York Palace, the Grand Hyatt New York, the Peninsula New York, and the Westin New York at Times Square, among others. These hotels join a list of 17 universities, 20 residential property management companies and eleven hospitals that have signed on to the new programme.
