There is a gorgeous new light installation at the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place in NYC. “Luminaries” is an installation of 650 LED lanterns suspended above the gardens.

The lights change colors in five different patterns, with names such as “Snowfall”, “Northern Lights” and “Firecracker”. There are also Wishing Stations, where you place your hands and make a wish. When you release your hands, your wish is interpreted through a random display of color across the lanterns. For each wish that is made, Arts Brookfield will donate $1 to The Grammy Foundation in support of their “Grammys in Schools” program. Admission is free, and it is open daily until 10 January.
