Plans to pedestrianise London’s Oxford Street are being drawn up. The iconic shopping street, which runs from Tottenham Court Road to Hyde Park, is often clogged with traffic and records some of the highest pollution levels in the UK.

The proposal would ban traffic from the street, with buses being replaced by a ‘zero-emission shuttle’. Outgoing London Mayor Boris Johnson has confirmed that the plan is being considered alongside other options, and all the candidates for the mayoral election, which will be held in four months, have backed the idea of pedestrianising the street.
