Mexican home of the Piñata holds annual festival

Piñatas (the paper figures that people repeatedly hit until they break open and release the goodies inside) are increasingly popular around the world but nowhere more than Acolman, the Mexican town where they were invented.

The first piñata was made in a convent here in 1587 (they originally had seven points to represent the seven deadly sins) and for the past few days the town has been celebrating its claim to fame with a festival that includes demonstrations on making piñatas from the 60 families in town who still produce them, fireworks and live music.
