A new plan to link the Maldivian capital, Male, with the neighbouring island of Hulhumale threatens to destroy the Maldives’ most consistent surf break. The planned bridge will connect the overcrowded capital to the burgeoning residential neighbourhoods being constructed on reclaimed land on Hulhumale, but surfers claim the bridge will destroy the reef break at Raalhugandu, the most popular location for surf competitions in the islands.
