On Monday, participants at the 16th annual Lantern Floating Festival released around 6000 floating lanterns into the sea at Ala Moana Beach Park in O‘ahu. The event, which has roots in Buddhism, began on O‘ahu in 1999, and every year thousands of participants release floating lanterns at sunset.
