Japanese scientists develop rescue ‘robodog’

A research team in Japan have created a system of equipment that can be attached to search dogs working at rescue sites.

The high-tech system includes a vest that has GPS capabilities, a barometer, a battery and other devices. There is also a camera to be worn around the dog’s neck, and a device for transmitting the data being recorded. The technology is intended to help speed up rescue missions in emergency and disaster situations. The project to develop the system began shortly after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, which devastated parts of northeastern Japan.
