The High Court of India has ruled that the top 13 floors of India’s tallest building – the Palais Royale at Worli in Mumbai – are illegal and may need to be taken down.

The 56-floor skyscraper was set to reach a dizzying height of 320m, but the court-ordered haircut would take it well below the record category. The adjacent parking block for the tower, itself 15 storeys high, has also been declared illegal. The dispute centres on the official planning permission granted by the municipal corporation of Mumbai, which appears to have been ignored by the developers.
