The temperature is rising for Haida Gwaii’s hot springs. Three years ago, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Haida Gwaii off the coast of British Columbia, shutting off the hot springs in the park.

Before the earthquake, the pools at Hotspring Island in the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve & Haida Heritage Site were a popular tourist spot, but the earthquake pinched off the springs’ source. Last year park staff began to see water returning to the springs, but geologists maintained that it would be unlikely for the springs to return to their pre-earthquake levels. Now park officials say the water near the springs has neared 70 degrees. Read more: cbc.ca
