Sales of foods with links to the Middle Ages have surged at a supermarket chain – just weeks after the medieval drama Game of Thrones returned to the UK’s screens.

Bones and offal, fermented alcoholic drinks, pickled vegetables and ancient grain-based products are flying off the shelves at Morrisons, as UK consumers experiment with a “new age” of food.

Morrison’s said it has sold 88,000 packs of beef and 54,000 packs of lamb bones, whose sales have increased by 71%, in the last four weeks. In offal, the retailer saw a 105% and 94% rise in pig and ox livers.
