Cancún, on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, is a well known holiday destination for Europeans and especially Americans and last year the resort confirmed its popularity by being the most visited vacation spot in the country.
Five million tourists came to enjoy the beaches, nightlife and day trips to historical sites like Chichén Itzá, breaking previous records and ensuring an average hotel occupancy rate of 82%, way above other Mexican destinations like Cabo, on 65% as it recovered from Hurricane Odile, and Acapulco with under 50%, hit by fears of drug-related violence.
