Stonehammer in New Brunswick and Tumbler Ridge  in British Columbia have been given a new Unesco designation, Unesco Global Geopark.

According to Unesco, Global Geoparks are areas with significant geological heritage, and the sites strive to protect geodiversity, promote education and maintain sustainable tourism. There are 120 Geoparks in 33 countries, and Stonehammer and Tumbler Ridge are Canada’s first. The parks offer a variety of activities, including rock climbing, geocaching, hiking and archaeological and paleontological sites. Read more: canada.com
