Plane manufacturing giant Boeing has come up with an innovative new plan to overhaul the entire flying experience for passengers by putting on a lighting show around them in virtually every part of the cabin during flights.
The company’s representative, Mike Sinnett, feels carriers could light up the walls and bulkheads to give passengers information and to let them see what their destination holds in store for them when they land.
He said the ideas were based on simple concepts for airlines and the hope was they would help passengers inside feel less trapped. Gizmodo UK reports that carriers could also use their cabin ceilings for displays like this. Such projection technology could also be applied to entertainment during flights with seat backs acting as personal screens.
The idea is to take the feeling of being in a cramped closet away for travellers in the plane. Boeing hopes that by transforming where crews currently prepare drinks into snazzy surroundings with actual countertops and a well-lit up workspace will prove a hit. And they believe it can all be done by installing a massive projection television which will give the impression of a welcoming hub right in the centre of the plane.
