Recently named the sunniest place in New Zealand in 2015, Blenheim is claiming another title this week: the largest capital in New Zealand without traffic lights.
The city of Pukekohe, south of Auckland, is about to have its first set of traffic lights after transport officials concluded that there is no other way to get buses and commuter traffic safely in and out of Pukekohe’s soon-to-be upgraded train station without them. Blenheim residents know how to use roundabouts effectively, which means traffic lights are unnecessary. Plus, roundabouts keep traffic flowing, reducing congestion. Read more: stuff.co.nz
