Strange footage of a colourful demon being bombarded with turnips has emerged from the small Spanish town of Piornal.

The bizarre activity is part of the celebrations for the Feast of Saint Sebastian festival, a little known festival which takes place on the 19 and 20 January. Each year a turnip wielding crowd gather around a brightly costumed demon character or ‘jarramplas’ (scapegoat) who must stand defiant while he is pelted with the vegetables.
