Seventy concrete blocks sunk off Gibraltar’s coast near the territory’s airport runway have exploded with life, according to divers. The controversial artificial reef provoked anger from Spain when it was installed two years ago, as it accused Gibraltar of creating the reef to hinder Spanish fishing operations in the area. Spain does not recognise Gibraltar’s territorial waters. The artificial reef was cultivated in an area that used to be home to sea grass and has been found teeming with marine life including octopus and triggerfish. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
