People all over the world have been paying their own musical tributes to artist David Bowie, who died of cancer this week,. Musical contributions from UK organ tributes to Space Oddity played on church bells in the Netherlands, have been captured on video.

Bowie died at the age of 69 following an 18-month battle with cancer. The British musician was one of the world’s most influential artists during a career that lasted decades. His final album, called Blackstar, was released last week.

St Alban’s Cathedral in Hertfordshire posted a special tribute to David Bowie featuring an organist, Nicholas Freestone, performing the song Life on Mars. Many people commented that the video moved them to tears. Facebook user Lucy Onions wrtote: “Nicholas, that bought tears, goosebumps and utter adoration. I think I’ve shed enough tears over the loss of one of my idols now so I’m just going to remember the man whose style, ethos and music deeply touched me and will continue to do so”. Watch the video here.

At the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, Facebook user Gordon Wilson posted a video of organist Chris Nichol also performing Life on Mars on the organ. Wilson captions the video “Not a good day. Took myself off the the Art Galleries… this was moving”. Watch the video here.

A YouTube user Paul Terpstra also posted a tribute from Utrecht in the Netherlands, featuring a performance of Space Oddity played on the church bells. Watch the video here.

People around the world have been mourning the loss of David Bowie, with tributes popping up in his birthplace of Brixton, and at his former residences in New York, Berlin and London.
