You can stay on board Blue Planet II’s exploration vessel in The Bahamas

If you’re a fan of BBC Earth’s Blue Planet II, and would love the opportunity to spend two nights on the exploration vessel featured in it, you may just be in luck. Airbnb and BBC Worldwide have announced that OceanX’s Alucia vessel has been listed on Airbnb, and they’re running a competition around it. Three people from eligible countries will win the chance to experience what it’s like to journey in the vessel and take a ride in a submarine up to 1000m beneath the waves in The Bahamas.

In a bid to inspire the public about ocean exploration and conservation, the winners will submerge in Alucia to explore undersea territory. The event will be hosted by Blue Planet II producer, Orla Doherty, who will regale guests with stories of aquatic adventures and share little-known facts and surprising accounts of marine life. While on board, the lucky winners will learn about the extreme adventures experienced during filming Blue Planet II, and see a whole host of surprising marine creatures first-hand.

“Having spent 500 hours in the submarine and countless weeks at sea filming the deep sea for Blue Planet II, the Alucia almost feels like my second home,” says Orla. “I now feel privileged to be able to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with promising ocean heroes and show them the wonders of life in the ocean.”

Three entries will be chosen by a panel of judges, and each winner can take one guest with them. The expedition will run from April 4 to 8, and the prize will include return economy flights from the winner’s home city to Nassau in The Bahamas. Two nights will be spent on-board the Alucia and two nights at an Airbnb home, one before and the other after the expedition. The winners will board Alucia in Cape Eleuthera and disembark in Nassau. All meals, ground transportation and entertainment are included.

“The Alucia has been partner to some of the most groundbreaking science research and film-making in the world, including the first-ever footage of the giant squid and unprecedented deep sea dives in Antarctica,” says Vincent Pieribone, vice-chairman of OceanX, which owns and operates the Alucia exploration vessel. “We are thrilled to partner with Airbnb and the BBC to offer these winners this priceless opportunity to experience first-hand the mysteries, excitement and beauty of the ocean, the next frontier of human exploration.”
