For the past few years, May visitors to the Rural Life Centre in Tilford, Surrey, have experienced the sights and sounds of a Second World War battle.

But this year organisers say “peace is breaking out”, giving tourists the chance to wave their flags in celebration of 1945’s Victory in Europe when Allied forces finally defeated Hitler’s Nazi troops on the continent.

Event organiser Dave Allaway said: “There won’t be any air raid sirens as in previous years, but old favourites such as the American Airborne division, the wartime vehicles, the 1940s music and dance floor, and the RAF plotting room will be there.

“The atmosphere at this two-day event is always special, but with victory as the theme, it promises to be even more memorable this year.”
