National Unplugging Day begins at sunset this evening, and in celebration of this, a competition is running to offer two people in the UK the chance to go ‘off-grid’ and stay in a treehouse in Sweden.
The National Day of Unplugging is an annual initiative hosted by Reboot, a New-York based nonprofit cultural organisation and it begins today, 9 March, at sunset and ends tomorrow, 10 March, at sunset. It encourages people to turn technology off for a day, and do things like connect with the people in their neighbourhood or city, have an uninterrupted meal or read a book.
Booking.com found that 92% of British people are craving an escape completely “off the grid.” They feel that being contactable 24/7 (43%) on top of maintaining work and social lives and keeping up on social media (47%) piles on the pressure and takes its toll. Log cabins (71%) and treehouses (45%) came top of their escape fantasies.
The accommodation booking company is helping to make one lucky pair make the great escape staying in one of the world’s most unique hotels – the Treehotel in Harads, Sweden. The Treehotel offers amazing treehouse designs, such as the UFO, Mirrorcube or a Bird’s Nest.
There are a range of activities available that don’t involve technology, including tranquil fishing trips and brisk sledding. The beautiful surroundings and luxury feel of the Treehotel make it the ideal place for a relaxing break, and as the evenings wind down, it’s not unusual to see the magical Northern Lights above.
To enter the competition, all you have to do is tell Booking.com why you deserve to go ‘off the grid’ here.
