It was a weekend of wild weather in many parts of California, bringing welcome snow to ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada and a damaging tornado to one small town.

Trees were uprooted and buildings damaged as the tornado blew through Denair, southeast of Modesto in the Central Valley, while strong winds brought a chill to Los Angeles. At least skiers were happy though, as resorts that had opened earlier than usual saw large dumps of snow and plenty of winter sports enthusiasts making the most of the conditions.
