On Thursday, US President Barack Obama will announce the creation of several new national monuments, areas that are similar to national parks. The Pullman National Monument in Illinois will include a 203-acre site within modern-day Chicago that highlights the nation’s first planned industrial town. In Hawaii the Honouliuli National Monument will mark the location of the largest internment camp used during WWI. Browns Canyon National Monument will comprise a 21,000-acre area in Colorado dedicated to outdoor activities like hiking and fishing, as well as protect the variety of wildlife found there.
