If you’re a baseball fan who loved the 1989 movie, Field of Dreams, we have a dream holiday for you. You can now head to Iowa and stay overnight at the iconic house from the film and pretend you’re Kevin Costner.
Costner starred as Ray Kinsella in the fantasy-drama sports film, which was adapted from W.P. Kinsella’s novel, Shoeless Joe. The set was built on the century-old Lansing family farm in Dyersville, and once filming wrapped, the family kept the field the way it was, complete with the infamous baseball diamond carved into the cornfield.
Fans of the movie have flocked to see it ever since, and the film location has become a very popular tourist attraction. Now the owners are taking the experience a step further, and are giving visitors the opportunity to get even closer to the action by offering overnight stays at the old farmhouse.
If you book a stay, you’ll be greeted personally by the movie site staff. There is one bedroom upstairs and the house is yours for the night. You’ll also receive a Field of Dreams commemorative baseball and a copy of actor Dwier Brown’s book, If You Build It.
Just like Ray Kinsella did in the movie, you can have a picnic dinner on the field, as a bottle of wine, two wine glasses and a picnic tablecloth are provided. You’ll get a DVD of the movie with popcorn to have while watching it, and a $25 (€20) gift card towards a breakfast at a local Dyersville country breakfast spot.
Prices for booking an overnight stay at the house for two adults start at US$1400 (€1133) per night and booking is available here. It isn’t cheap, but hey, you can’t put a price on dreams, eh?
