If you’ve ever dreamed if cooking in Julia Child’s kitchen that dream can soon become a reality. The famous chef’s former cottage in France will host cooking courses that double as all-inclusive vacations and be available to rent on Airbnb.
Child, who died in 2004, was a famous chef, author and TV personality, who rose to prominence in the 1960s and whose cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, is attributing with bringing French home cooking to America.
La Pitchoune, or ‘La Peetch”, is the former summer home of Child located in Provence, which in 1993 opened as a culinary school. However, the school was closed in 2015 and the home went up for sale. Now, the cottage will reopen in June as a centre for “culture, food, and community” and will again operate as a cooking school. According to the La Peetch website, there will be cooking courses that double as all-inclusive vacations, including “courageous cooking lessons, all breakfasts and lunches, excursions throughout the local area, daily (optional) yoga, beaucoup wine from the region, dips in the pristine pool.” The site will also be open as a retreat site and as a rental on Airbnb – with weekly rentals starting at $3,000.
Disciples of the beloved American chef can already see her kitchen at the National Museum of American History in the Washington, DC, which features the kitchen from her Massachusetts home exactly as it appeared in 2001, when she donated it to the museum.
