All major US airlines have now banned hoverboards, both as carry-on items and as checked baggage, on flights in the US.
Airlines have expressed concern about the lithium-ion batteries used in hoverboards. The batteries in hoverboards often exceed the limits set by the government for transportation on airplanes. Lithium-ion batteries can spontaneously burst into flames, posing a severe danger to airplanes and passengers.
