The government of Uganda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese government to construct a light rail mass transportation system in greater Kampala.

Set to cost US$440 million and run over five years, the initial 35-kilometer stretch will be constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation. It’s hoped this project will de-congest traffic in the country’s capital and surrounding areas. The network will be elevated, which will also alleviate the need for inefficient road crossings.
