Police guarding Rome’s Colosseum caught two Californian women, aged 21 and 25, carving their initials into one of the ancient monument’s walls on Saturday. The pair had slipped away from their tour group and carved a eight cm-high ‘J’ and ‘N’, before taking selfies with their graffiti. Defacing the Colosseum is strictly forbidden, and the women will now go in front of a judge and face a penalty. Read more: theguardian.com
