Portugal’s embassy in Maputo, Mozambique has announced that two of their nationals have been kidnapped in the city this week, one on Monday and another Thursday. According to local media, the first incident happened in broad daylight and involved five armed men seizing a man next to a busy restaurant along Mao Tse Tung Avenue. The second kidnapping took place on a street close to the presidential palace, in an area of Maputo where most foreign diplomatic missions’ offices reside – the Portuguese woman was reportedly taken after a staged road accident. These events follow the abduction of a wealthy Mozambican businessman on 27 January. The country’s government has received criticism for its failure to curb the kidnappings, which often targeted expatriates. Read more: news24.com
