Destination weddings are one way for travel-loving couples to turn their nuptials into a trip, but one pair has taken things to the next level by getting married 100 times in beautiful spots around the world.

Cheetah and Rhiann Platt fell in love quickly, but have taken their time when it comes to weddings, celebrating their union with dozens of unique ceremonies.

A professional acrobat and aerialist, Cheetah met Rhiann, a dancer, at a training centre when she asked him to try a lift. “I picked her up and I never wanted to put her down,” he told Lonely Planet. It was only a year until he proposed.

Thinking it would be romantic to wake up each day and talk about one aspect of their dream wedding, they soon realised that all it did was stress them out.

Cheetah and Rhiann decided to redefine what a wedding meant to them, and realised that the most important thing was to exchange vows and rings. They found that Colorado allows for self-uniting ceremonies, where a couple can conduct their own wedding without the need for witnesses or an officiant.

As avid travellers, they decided that instead of an expensive wedding, they would opt to see the world – and since their perfect wedding could be held anywhere, they opted to hold it everywhere.

They were able to travel cheaply by catching flights mid-week and not really caring where they went. They started off with one ceremony and kept on travelling, sharing some incredibly acrobatic images along the way. Since that first wedding, they have taken time off each year to do go to more countries and hold some ceremonies.

Despite their incredible appearance, their pictures are shot on a cellphone camera with a tripod. While they dress the part of a bride- and groom-to-be, they are able to pack up their wedding clothes small enough to travel. And since they only spent $100 each on their wedding outfits, that’s now evened out to about $1 per use.

The benefit of holding so many weddings, according to Cheetah, is that they always feel like newlyweds, and they never need their wedding to be perfect. Sometimes it’s raining or they’ve just had a fight. But Cheetah says that “every wedding is completely different, just like every day with your partner”.

They recently held their 100th wedding – on the fourth of July in Washington. Since they wanted photographs of the wedding in front of the fireworks, they hired a photographer to take some pictures, and Cheetah says it was the first time he was stressed out about a wedding.

Now, they are home from their travels and in Las Vegas, where they will work for some time and start thinking about their next trip. Cheetah’s advice is that people who like their photographs can emulate their travels by planning ahead and doing a lot of prep to get the best deals, like they do. While he is happy for anyone who wants to have a traditional wedding, he says that they have created their own tradition – one that happily combines their love of travel and one another.
