The Airbus 330-300 will serve WOW air’s Reykjavik to San Francisco route from June 9.

The latter has been synonymous with advancing gay rights in the United States.

WOW air’s founder and chief executive, Skuli Mogensen, said: “When we announced we were going to start flying to San Francisco, one of our pilots approached me and suggested the TF-GAY registry.

“I immediately thought it was a great idea and fitted with our approach to using words relating to family members in the spirit of inclusiveness.”
