Art lovers this hotel should be right up your alley! Art Series Hotel Group has opened its doors to its eighth art-inspired hotel The Chen in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. The gallery-esque getaway was inspired by the Chinese-Australian abstract artist, Zhong Chen whose fun and relaxed persona can be seen across the hotel’s décor. The hotel features 100 rooms and celebrates the ethnic diversity of the Box Hill area.
The artistic rooms are self-contained, open-planned and apartment-style suites and there is also a rooftop pool with sundeck, gymnasium, plus conference and events facilities. Chen is known for his bold art style that represents his transcultural identity. He arrived in Australia at the age of 19 back in 1989 and his works explore his culture as well as belonging and place of being an Australian artist with a proud Chinese heritage.
“You just have to believe in what you are doing before someone else will believe in you,” Chen says. Guests of the hotel have a choice of two dining options while surrounded by Chen’s artworks. There are also in-house art libraries and a dedicated art channel. Not only that but for those who are keen to learn about the hotel’s namesake, art curators in the hotel will offer free tours.
Chen draws his inspiration from everyday life with contemporary subjects but blends his art with traditional Chinese women and utilising ink brush painting.
“Relaxed and fun, Zhong Chen is the joyous inspiration behind The Chen,” the hotel says. “Providing contemporary accommodation in Melbourne’s burgeoning Box Hill, The Chen has been crafted with the unique art inspired touch points that Art Series Hotels are celebrated for”.
The Chen is based on 850 Whitehorse Road in Box Hill VIC 3128. You can find out more on their website here.
