The United States of America boasts a diverse range of beautiful natural sites, interesting and educational museums, fun theme parks and unique tourist attractions to suit the whole family. And now thanks to TripAdvisor, the most popular choice in each state has been revealed, making it easier than ever to start planning a fun-filled day out.
The data was compiled by examining the most booked experiences through TripAdvisor in 2017. The findings show a diverse collection across the country, with the Empire State Building proving to be the biggest draw in New York, while the Chicago Architecture River Cruise was Illinois’ most booked experience. In Louisiana, the New Orleans Ghost, Voodoo and Vampire tour proved to be the most popular choice, with the walking tour taking visitors around the Big Easy and bringing the folklore and history of the city to life. California’s Skip the Line: USS Midway Museum was the most booked experience in the state last year, with the popular attraction allowing guests to stroll around the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century.
Alaska’s Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise was the most popular choice for that state, with the five-hour round trip bringing guests along a rugged coastline to admire alpine glaciers nestled high in the mountains. In Florida, a speedboat sightseeing tour of Miami was the most booked, while Kentucky’s thoroughbred Horse Farm Tour proved the most popular. A small selection of states proved to have insufficient data to be included in the listing.
Outlined in TripAdvisor’s 2018 experiential travel trends report, recent findings also showed that people are expanding their horizons when it comes to taking part in activities while travelling. While iconic landmarks and sites remained the most booked by travellers globally, the report showed a large increase in US travellers booking cooking and restaurant experiences while abroad, such as paella and tapas workshops in Barcelona and street food tours in Rome. One of the fastest-growing categories for US travellers was historical and heritage experiences, while the number of people taking part in aquatic activities such as snorkeling, sailing and kayaking all shot up.
