The most popular Instagram spots in the UK that aren’t in London

If you want to get outside the London bubble and explore some of the most beautiful spots around the UK, look no further for inspiration than Instagram.

By looking at hashtags like #beautiful, #stunning, #wonderful, #romantic and #lovely and specific locations around the UK, Instagram data tool Magi Metrics found out the places where travellers were most in awe of their surroundings. Based on more than 300,000 posts, the company created a list of the 15 most popular and attractive locations in the UK.

The most beautiful spot may some as a surprises, even to avid travellers around the UK. Cleethorpes Beach, Lincolnshire, with its beautiful promenade, makes for a picturesque and incredibly British scene that inspired many Instagrammers to leave a post. It’s perhaps less surprising that the iconic sight of Edinburgh Castle, high up above the city, is routinely photographed from every angle. The top attraction not only looks great from below, but a walk up to the castle provides amazing views over the Scottish city.

Across the Irish Sea, the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland is the third most popular spot. The Unesco World Heritage Site is certainly a unique spectacle with its rising basalt columns, meaning it’s no surprise that the ancient site makes its way into more than a few Instagram feeds.

In fourth was a beautiful spot, but one that would be off the beaten path for many travellers. Durdle Door in Dorset, an incredible stone arch above the sea, is still a popular attraction that draws in travellers who want to enjoy the stunning views of Dorset. The fifth most popular place is Eilean Donan Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The castle sits where three lochs meet, and offer such an iconic view of Scotland that it’s hard not to take a photograph. Find out more about all the top spots here.
