It appears that Disney Lucasfilm will be filming the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Ceann Sibeal at the Western Tip of the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland, and Irish Star Wars fans no doubt will be overjoyed. The crew spent two years filming on Skellig Michael.

Contractors have already been to the area and a 1.5 km metal roadway on the slopes of Cean Sibeal has been erected to facilitate the transportation of gear and goods to the summit.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is directed by Rian Johnson and will include much of the same cast from The Force Awakens with the addition of Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

Whilst the time of the filming has not yet been confirmed, locally it is understood that it’s to take place in the middle of May for two weeks.

Hopefully some overexcited Irish Star Wars fan will be able to find out more in the weeks to come.
