When it comes to engagement and wedding photos, in the last few years, couples all over the world have proven their inventiveness time and time again. Gone are the days of simply marking the occasion, with people now taking the opportunity to travel to unique destinations in order to get images that represent their personal interests and styles. And for one US couple, the recent cold winter weather proved to be the perfect inspiration for a photoshoot, as they ended up with stunning images taken at a frozen waterfall in the mountains of Tennessee.
Captured by photographer Kellie Elmore at Bald River Falls in Tellico Plains, the images show her two friends Morgan Daye and Josh Morris in suitably stylish attire in front of the massive, frozen backdrop. “The couple chose the mountains for their engagement photos because their relationship was kind of brought together by their love of nature, hiking and outdoor adventures,” Kellie told Lonely Planet Travel News.
While the eye-catching images are completely unique to the couple and include the rare occurrence of the falls freezing over, capturing the series proved to be a challenge for Kellie. “It was so cold and slick! The wind down on the ice was sharp, and although the falls were mostly frozen, there was still a lot of water rushing off which was super loud and made it difficult for the couple to hear my direction, so instead of trying to direct each shot, I basically just yelled at them to start playing, dancing and engaging with one another and I just snapped! The close ups were the only time I was able to direct or pose the look,” Kellie said.
The first proper collection of images that Kellie had ever done in winter, the shoot required the three of them to walk two miles in 25-degree weather, but Kellie said that it was worth it. After she posted the images online, people around the world have been sharing and complimenting them. “I am blown away. I never dreamed my work would reach such a large audience. I expected a little more reaction from these because of the location, but nothing like how big this has been,” Kellie said.
More of Kellie’s work is available at her official website.
