The government of Tajikistan has announced it will shutter all private currency exchange bureaus in the country.

In April 2015, the country issued a directive to close all private bureaus, which has yet to be enforced. The country plans to offer currency exchange only at official banks and lending agencies. Previously, private currency exchange booths operated widely in Tajikistan, but the central bank has cited the fact that exchange rates were overvalued at such booths as the reason for the closures.
