Gus, a sea lion famous for a 2007 viral photo showing him meeting an Asian elephant, died on Sunday at the Oregon Zoo in Portland due to complications resulting from his advanced age. Gus was 27 years old, almost ten years older than the average age of sea lions in the wild, and was believed to be the oldest sea lion on the planet. Zoo curator Amy Cutting described Gus as ‘sweet-tempered, gentle and eager to please’. He was humanely euthanized by zoo staff. Read more: kval.com
