Stay in a Harry Potter-themed flat in the middle of Edinburgh’s Old Town

Forget checking into any old hotel when you next visit Edinburgh, Hogwarts is the place to be. Well, Hogwarts on a smaller scale anyway, as a flat in the historic area of Old Town has been unveiled that is modelled on the world’s most famous School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Featuring a Gryffindor-themed master bedroom with a king sized four poster bed and a custom red and gold wall hanging as well as a 43-inch digital TV, the apartment aims to marry together the modern amenities and comforts of any rental vacation rental with the magical world created by J.K. Rowling. The second bedroom is Hogwarts Express-themed, and features a double bed with a vibrant colour scheme (and with another 43-inch TV), while the living room has a stone wall with a wooden mantel, a wood burning stove, leather armchairs, velvet curtains and wall paper that evokes the libraries of the school, as well as a double sofa bed for extra guests.

The Canongate Luxury Apartment proved to be a labour of love, with the current owner having purchased the flat last March before working for seven months to refurbish it and turn it into the Harry Potter-themed listing it is now. “It’s completely unique. It’s a fantasy of a diehard Potter Head and pays homage to the legendary fictional characters and the talent of J.K. Rowling, who used her imagination to enrich the spiritual experience of a whole generation all over the world. It is filled with collectibles from all over the world and some Harry Potter paraphernalia too.The kitchen door, the breakfast, the bar stools in the kitchen, all have been finished by skilled craftsmen,” the owner told Lonely Planet Travel News. The flat was captured in detail by interior photography firm ZAC and ZAC.

Located in one of Edinburgh’s World Heritage buildings called Morocco’s Land, the flat boasts views of the Roya Mile and Carlton Hill. Given that author, J.K. Rowling wrote the first book in the cafés of Edinburgh, the place itself holds special significance to the world of Harry Potter, with the city’s streets and buildings serving as the inspiration for many scenes in the series. One famous pub in Edinburgh, the Conan Doyle, has even changed names temporarily in honour of J.K. Rowling.
