On 25 April the Russian Museum in St Petersburg, which holds the world’s largest collection of Russian art,  celebrated 120 years since its foundation. The museum was established in 1895 by Tsar Nicholas II and officially opened in 1898 in the Mikhailovsky Palace. A commemorative exhibition called ‘Gifts and Acquisitions’ will present 19th-century artworks acquired by the museum since 1998. On 25 March, a branch of the Russian Museum opened in the Spanish city of Malaga, in a former tobacco factory La Tabacalera. Its opening exhibition is ‘Russian Art from Icons to the 20th Century’.
