The government of Sri Lanka has been accused of arranging a secret deal to sell off a stockpile of so-called blood ivory, cut from poached elephants, to an undisclosed third party. The haul of ivory, the largest ever discovered in South Asia, has been valued at over 350 million rupees (US$2.7 million) and was discovered in a container ship travelling from Kenya. African nations have taken a strong stance against selling confiscated ivory, instead burning the stockpiles as a political statement. Read more: dailymirror.lk
