NASA posted video of a solar eclipse that occurred this week. The space agency collaborated with the Exploratorium in San Francisco and the National Science Foundation to show live coverage of the 8 March total solar eclipse from Micronesia. NASA notes that the fully eclipsed sun was visible from only a few Pacific islands, “but the live broadcast made the phenomenon available to millions of people around the world”.

British skiing champion Graham Bell will be attempting to set a record as the fastest man on skis with the help of luxury car maker Jaguar. The company released a video of Bell pulled behind a Jaguar car as part of his training in the Austrian Alps. Jaguar will be developing a ski suit and harness containing twin micro jets to help bell reach speeds of more than 160mph. In the video, the five-time Olympian goes 100mph as he is pulled behind a vehicle.

A new species of octopus has been found near Hawaii and researches are calling it ‘Casper the octopus’ due to its ghost-like appearance. The animal was found off the northern coast of Hawaii by scientist from the national Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who say the discovery shows how little we know of the deep ocean.

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March, actress Emma Watson was in New York to speak at the opening of the HeForShe arts festival that launched on Tuesday. In a video posted by UN Women, Watson spoke of the HeForShe campaign, saying “we’re trying to build a global community with people from all walks of life and all genders to create a new normal – studies of equality”.

A rambunctious giraffe is ready for spring at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. According to the zoo, it’s a sure sign of spring that the giraffes can get out of their indoor habitat and head outside. Potoka, a two-year-old male, ran out with excitement, jumping and enjoying the warm weather.
