The Americas, Weird, Odd & Just Plain Fun
An image of a snowy owl in midflight, captured by a Montreal traffic camera has since gone viral.
According to the McGill Bird Observatory director Barbara Frei, the beautiful bird was probably looking for a place to perch, thereby looking straight at the camera and affording it such wonderful shots. The CCTV camera was placed above a Montreal freeway at the intersection of Autoroute 40 and the Boulevard des Sources, in the West Island of Montreal.
It was being reported that this was yet another incredible “animal selfie”, but since the owl did not take the photograph nor realise that it was looking at a camera, it can’t be considered one.
The snowy owl is the official symbol of Quebec, and all owls are protected across Canada. In Roman and Greek mythology the owl represents wisdom, and therefore is often used for modern emblems.
