Viking River Cruises have announced plans to bring six river ships to the Mississippi, and will begin operations from late 2017. Viking is known for ploughing the rivers of Europe, China, Southeast Asia and Egypt but this is the first time they will bring their riverboats to the Mississippi. Boats will accommodate up to 300 passengers and will cruise upriver from New Orleans to St Louis or St Paul, Minnesota, making stops in St James, East Baton Rouge, West Feliciana and Memphis. Viking Chairman Tor Hagen has said, ‘We are excited about the prospect of bringing modern river-cruising to the Mississippi, a river that has been travelled by explorers for centuries.’ Read more: travelpulse.com
